About us

What is Dear Earth?
Dear Earth is a project that brings nature to life through illustrated stories and hands-on activities, helping young minds explore the wonders of biodiversity and the challenges it faces. Each story is grounded in real scientific research, transforming complex topics like climate change and biodiversity loss into exciting adventures that inspire children (and the young at heart!) to protect nature in their daily lives.

We believe everyone deserves access to meaningful, inclusive, and empowering learning. That’s why Dear Earth combines storytelling with interactive resources and creative activities that build real-world skills and confidence — especially important as children face an uncertain environmental future. Research shows that nature-based education not only improves well-being, but also strengthens children’s ability to adapt, lead, and thrive. By aligning with national education goals, we support teachers, families, and community groups in sparking curiosity, resilience, and a lasting connection to the natural world.

Together, we can turn learning into action and help young minds grow into the next generation of conservation heroes.

Dr. Yanet Sepúlveda
Yanet is a biologist and Research Fellow at the University of Sussex, specialising in the impact of climate change on pollinators. Her work explores how extreme temperatures affect bee physiology and behaviour, with the aim of conserving pollinators and finding ways to support them in a changing world. She also leads a citizen science project investigating how different bee species respond to heatwaves and which plants support them during extreme weather events.

Yanet holds an Advance HE Fellowship, an international recognition of her commitment to teaching and learning. She is also an Associate Editor at Antenna, the magazine of the Royal Entomological Society, where she helps bring entomology to a wider audience.

She founded Dear Earth with a simple but powerful goal: to inspire people to love nature, care about biodiversity, and understand the environmental challenges we face. Rather than viewing these issues with fear, she believes young people should feel empowered to take action – because even the smallest hands can help shape a healthier planet.
